  • Quinceanera DJQuinceañera DJ Report

A Quinceañera, or “girl who is 15”, is a term for celebration of a young girls 15th birthday as she transitions from girlhood to womanhood. You may find out more detail on why this is so important here.

This past weekend I had the honor to be the Quinceañera DJ for Mariah Casanova in Adrian, Michigan at the Lenawee County Fair & Event Grounds. I have done more than one Quinceañera’s for this family already. Shout out to the Casanova’s who came all the way from San Antonio, Texas as well!

Los Hermanos Villegas & Quinceañera DJ One Tyme

I shared the stage with an excellent band named Los Hermanos Villegas! Every song they played brought people out to Cumbia! Cumbia music comes originally from the Antioquia region Colombia the days of slavery in the late 17th century and is derived from the African word cumbia which means dance. Everyone does a shuffle step around the dance floor in celebration of the music! A much better alternative than any line dance.

This was a rare moment where having both a DJ and band made perfect sense. The older crowd got to get out as couples to enjoy the band. They even played “Tennessee Whiskey” to switch up the vibes! The younger crowd got to turn up to their new music from my sound system.

Los Hermanos Villegas played three sets for about an hour each. While I took over the lions share of time before they started for the dinner and ceremony. There was a heartfelt father daughter dance and shoe ceremony. I also did the announcements and played more up to date top 40 and hip hop for the younger crowd. The highlight of the night was playing “Casanova” by Levert. This was definitely a family theme song! It seems like 90% of the party ran to the dance floor. The change overs were seamless and the crowd loved us both! Proving a DJ and Band combination can work when they’re both professionals!

I’ll be back next month for the next Casanova Quinceañera! Do you have any Quince memories? Comment below!
