No matter the size of the room. One of the most crucial tasks, other than placement of your bar, is placement of your wedding DJ! This person isn’t just your music curator of tear jerking moments for the evening. This is your spirit guide through the most magical night of your life! The host of your once in a lifetime journey! So why would you put your new best friend in the corner away from people?
Wedding Coordinators
If you’re a wedding coordinator, this crucial room placement may be overlooked. Make sure when speaking with your wedding DJ, no matter who you choose, that you find out they’re square footage space requirements. Save yourself from an emergency phone call! Asking to move the gift table to make room. While you’re getting dressed for you wedding ceremony!
The idea placement for any DJ will be in front of the dance floor. This will make it easier for your DJs speaker placement to point away from your guest tables. If your head table is prominently taking up that space, consider putting your wedding DJ to the side of the head table. But never place the DJ in a corner away from the dance floor. A great DJ will read the dance floor and the room, make announcements, and use the dance floor as a stage. So please keep your DJ connected to the dance floor at all costs!
Older Guests
The next wedding DJ factor to focus on will be your older guests. Particularly the ones who you know will complain that the sound is to loud. It’s often best to put reserved tables for grand parents to the side, middle, or back of the room away from the dance floor and your DJ’s speakers. In my experience, the older guests will rearrange their seating arrangements themselves. If not they will complain all night about how loud it is until they decide to leave. After the bouquet is thrown and they gave the anniversary dance a chance!
Many DJs will have small setups and will require very little space. But if you opt for larger platinum packages. You may be ordering a full production show with extensive lighting and concert sound. This will require plenty of space. As well as guests who can appreciate bass! When it’s party time, the DJs lights will shine, and sound will be up to corrupt. After dinner is released, people will get up and the sound will increase.
Wedding DJ Space
When working with me, I need approximately a 14’ x 14’ ft. working space for my DJ table, speakers, and 6’ ft. projection screen to fit comfortably. Though I can always make adjustments for any layout. This is my idea space requirements.
I will always recommend including my projection screen. The focus never leaves the bride and groom, because there is a slideshow of them that runs all night in place of music that has no videos. Seeing music videos is another grand icebreaker for all guests who don’t necessarily feel like dancing and prefer to socialize.
Never forget! The takeaway? Display your wedding DJ in front or on a side of the dance floor, otherwise the speakers may face the wrong way and stop your Hero For Hire from saving the day!
