The bridal party introduction is an unseen behind the scenes interaction that lasts 5 minutes, but has a huge impact on a wedding reception night. Yes I love what I do as far as controlling dance floors, and manipulating crowds. Yes I get a high from the exhilaration of making a crowd sing a song word for word. But do you want to know what the most exciting moment of my evening usually is?
Bridal Party Line Up Procedure
It may sound like trivial behind-the-scenes task. But let me explain exactly my process for this.
I email my clients a username and password for my website so they have access to the planning form. On the planning form they can list things like their personal information, hashtags, ceremony music requests, first dance requests, and most importantly the bridal party names to be announced!
Now when we get to the actual wedding reception, this list is rarely in full effect. But that’s OK! Because I understand that this will be a part of the process, even if the bride and groom didn’t realize it when they wrote it down. I still come armed with pen and paper for the on the spot changes that will have to be made!
When the wedding planner comes to get me to get ready for the announcements, this is my time to shine! I find the nearest seven minute song, let my assistant know I’ll be gone for a while, and set off walking into the crowd. As they stare and wonder where I’m off to, they start buzzing with anticipation, and most likely hunger for the upcoming dinner. (I’m always back within seven minutes though).
Bridal Party Before The Show
Public speaking in front of an audience of corporate attendees or wedding reception guests isn’t that hard when you have a microphone. But when you’re walking into an intimate group of people who came to celebrate the two individuals that hired you, there’s a different kind of pressure on you. Because they are already talking, and celebrating. So I come in LOUD!
“Hi Everybody! I’m your DJ, Dj One Tyme! I just want to go over the order and the names to make sure I get it right. I’d rather butcher your name now than later, so please please bear with me!”
For that one moment, in that hallway, you are part of that family. I start to go through the names and surprisingly get some of them right. Every time I do I gets that bridal party member that much more hyped up. After I finish the list I keep the energy high! Yelling the way a coach talks to his Super Bowl team before they run through the tunnel!
Me: (screaming) “Now is everybody ready!”
Bridal Party: (screaming) “YES!!
Me: ARE. YOU. READY!
Them: HELL Yes!
The cans of beer and bottles go in the air!… One couple even tried to poured a shot of tequila down my neck before we went out… That’s rare, but notable. The energy is always undeniable.
I run to the microphone have the audience take their seats. Then proceed to give the crowd the exact same excitement treatment!
From the first couple introduced to finally the bride and groom. That sets the tone of the energy the rest of the night is going to have!
Setting the tone is what I do for a living! Once we get past the introductions, the bride and grooms new life begins. Another success through the stress!
